While hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2005, we came across a strange road sign. It was posted on a gate which was blocking the entrance to a small back road. The sign read:

“STATE PROPERTY - ANY PERSON REMOVING OR MOLESTING SAME WILL BE PROSECUTED”

Today, I ended up the California Department of Transportation website. On the California (CA) Coded Sign Specifications page the sign is listed exactly as I remember.

I still have no idea what it means… Anyone have a guess?

This was in the same room as the previous session, so I left my stuff in the room. By the time I got back from the bathroom, it had already strated. So, I snuck back in and sat with my stuff which was down from. Unfortunatly, the room was really empty with all the other attendants were way in the back. For the next 30minutes … Claudia looked directly at me as she spoke. At least the information was good, if not dull. She had performed a very detailed study of all the HR intranet in her state.

The strangest part came after the session. I was heading out when someone I recognized walked up to me. It took me a moment, but he knew the connecting right away. We had both hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2005. “Piper” is now also a web proffesional in Higher Ed. The last time we met was down in the small California town of Agua Dulce. Being dinnerish time, I headed out with him and a buch of others. It took until midnight to get back to my room.

Finding that path less traveled. One blustery afternoon while on a camping trip in the Washington backcountry, I had the idea for www.TrailB.com, a hiker community site. I envisioned a place where I could photo blog all of my adventures for others to see and also search for new adventures by reading the logs of other outdoor travelers. During the summer of 2005, I thru-hiked the 2600 mile Pacific Crest Trail, uploading my daily journals to the site as I went along.

On April 17, 2005 my partner and I set out from the Mexican border for a six-month backpacking expedition to reach Canada by way of the Pacific Crest Trail.

The PCT travels over 2650 miles through California, Oregon and Washington. It traverses a wide variety of landscapes ranging from the waterless deserts of southern California to glacier-capped peaks of the Pacific Northwest.

This trip took years to plan, and was more eventful and inspiring then we ever could have imagined. Due to injury and illness, we did admittedly have to skip a few notable sections of the trail this season. Yet by the end, we completed over 2400 miles and gained a much greater respect for nature (as well as our sore feet).

During the course of the adventure, we logged hundreds of journals, took thousands of pictures and even captured a few short movies.
